Jan (John) VandenEngel - May 26, 1931 to July 7, 2019

Gone to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jan passed away peacefully at KGH on Sunday, July 7 at the age of 88.

The founder, owner and operator of Western Landscape Services in Elginburg, Ont., Jan always had a love for the outdoors and a sincere care for the environment and knew every species of plant and trees.
Jan took pride in being a retired Canadian Armed Forces Vimy band member. He kept his passion for music alive by playing the tuba and listening to classical music at home.

Jan enjoyed an active, positive and healthy lifestyle by participating in speed skating, rollerblading, biking and many adventurous camping trips. Jan showed a genuine interest in the lives of others. Any chance he got while working or travelling, he took the opportunity to meet new people. Jan was truly an inspiration to his family and friends.

Jan was the loving husband of 64 years to Truus (nee van Rossum) and loving father to Carol (Glenn) Green, Nancy (Tim) Minnema, Paul (Denise) Vanden Engel, Irene (John) Hoekstra.  Loving grandfather to Rachel, Paul (Jenna), Nicole, Joel, Mark, Alyssa (Nick), Steven (Tanisha), Luke, Lydia, Matthew (Lauren), Jessica (Brennan), and great grandfather to Cameron, Brooklyn, and Nicholas.  Beloved brother of Jaap (late Ina), Bep (late Tjeerd), and predeceased by his sister, Janny, and parents Paulus and Geertruida (nee Renzen) and step mother Johanna (nee Breukel).

Family and friends will be received at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Thursday, July 11 between the hours of 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 and 9:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be held at First Christian Reformed Church, 310 Kingscourt Avenue, on Friday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m.
